South Milford WI is supporting the launch of innovative new music lessons
called Musical Kids for babies and toddlers. Local music teacher Sarah
Garrard has created the lessons adapting the world renowned Kodaly method
which uses hand signals to help children sing in pitch.
Sarah, who has two children (aged three and a baby) dreamed up the idea
after negative experiences with her oldest child at music groups. Sarah
believes that pre-school children could learn the building blocks for
musical success very early on in a format that is just as fun as a more
traditional music group.
'We use fun puppets, rhymes, songs and games to introduce key musical
concepts such as tempo, harmony and dynamics etc. It is not only the musical
development they learn but language, memory, concentration, physical co-ordination
and development.'
Laura Reilly from South Milford WI met Sarah through their children and
mentioned the WI Hall as being the ideal venue. 'South Milford WI is delighted
to support Sarah with this new and exciting venture. Hopefully, this is
the start of something big, many bookings have already been taken' The
WI introduced Sarah to local mother and baby groups and Sarah has been
demonstrating the class in free sessions during December.
