The South Milford Village Band

SMB was formed in 1982 under the title of Hambleton Brass. In 1989 after moving into the WI Hall they changed the name of the band to SMB. Ten years ago after loosing key players they found themselves struggling to keep the band afloat, that's when they moved near Goole where there was a school band willing to join forces and they are still going strong. A year ago they were looking for a new conductor and one of the former members South Milford born and bred Richard Wilton took on the job, and soon after entered their first contest for many years and came first giving the band a great boost.

Esme Crowe
In any village, at any time, there are people who are catalysts. They are the people who become actively involved in village life to bring opportunities and new interests to young and old. As village life in this country is becoming increasingly suburban and commuter based, it is important to remember those people who helped make the village such an interesting place to live in the past, and appreciate those people who continue such work today. In the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s, in South Milford, one of those activists was Esme Crowe.
